The introduction in the book "The Holy Science" by Sri Sri Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri Maharaj itself has enough power to shake India into its foundations.
Before I give my reasons, I should first point out to small but very critical typographical errors in this book.
In page 14 of the introduction, the line should read as follows, "From 11,502 B.C., when the Autumnal Equinox..." And NOT as printed.
In page 20 of the introduction, the line should read as follows, "...the Vernal Equinox at spring in the year 1893." And NOT as printed.
Now, my reasons...
Vedic Astrology depends on the "Ayanamsha". Until the ayanamsha is given nobody can fix the date of any event or know the horoscope of a person.
Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri's Ayanamsha is 00°00'00" on Vernal Equinox {March Equinox} of 0499. [ Assumed to be 22 Mar. 0499 Julian Calendar ]
Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri's Ayanamsha is 20°54'36" on Vernal Equinox {March Equinox} of 1893. [ Assumed to be 22 Mar. 1893 Gregorian Calendar ]
Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri's Ayanamsha Deviation per year is 00°00'54".
Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri is the only Vedic astrologer who mentioned the most sensible year of occurance in reference to the events mentioned in The Mahabharata. He gave the two most critical details; the ayanamsha and the year of the starting of Kali Yuga, and I -using nothing more than common sense and a willingness to verify what Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri has said- was able to fix the rest of the dates quite effortlessly.

Sri Krishna was born on 26 Jul. -769 00:00:00 {Around Midnight}.
Remember -769 is not equal to 769 BC.
The planetary positions are as follows...

Sun is in Magha
Moon is in Rohini
Mars is in Mrigashira
Mercury is in Magha
Jupiter is in Anuradha

20 Dec. -744 -- Solar Eclipse.
04 Jan. -743 -- Lunar Eclipse.
Planetary Positions on 20 Dec. -744 -- Solar Eclipse.
There is a definite reference to this date though I cannot ascertain the incident connected to it. This date obviously has something to do with “The Uttarayana”. Winter Solstice {December Solstice}. If it is not the date on which the Pandavas were banished then it is probably the date on which Princess Uttara was born. The day probably explains her name.

And Sri Krishna died on 15 Feb -702. At the age of 66 Years. One year before Kali Yuga started.
05 Mar. -701 -- Solar Eclipse almost on "The First Point Of Aries". {Fourth Pada of Revati.}
22 Mar. -701 -- Descending Kali Yuga starts
I gave the planetary positions of four incidents; The Birth of Sri Krishna, The Solar Eclipse on December Solstice, The First Day of Kurukshetra War and The Solar Eclipse before the Tsunami at Dwaraka. Vedic astrologers who try to fix the date of the Kurukshetra War do so by taking the lines in the Bhishma Parva of The Mahabharata. What we read in the Bhishma Parva are the jumbled up positions of the planets of all the four incidents that I mentioned. THEY ARE NOT ENTIRELY THE PLANETARY POSITIONS AT THE TIME OF WAR.
What Swami Sri Yukeswar Giri gave us is NOT a breakthrough in vedic Astrology. He is the only Vedic Astrologer who probably did a little to restore Vedic Astrology to its pristine glory. May be he would have suggested many more modifications had the Hindus been more receptive to what he had to say instead of throwing stones at him. Indians, especially the Hindus should give an apology to Swami Sri Yukteswar like the Vatican's apology to Galileo Galilei.
What follows now is for Vedic Astrologers :-
Though the listing of the zodiac signs start with Aries. The actual listing of nakshatras start with Krittika. AND THE WHOLE OF KRITTIKA NAKSHATRA IS IN TAURUS. OR IN OTHER WORDS THE FOURTH PADA OF REVATI IS IN ARIES. REVATI DOES NOT END WITH PISCES.
For example... After using Yukteswar Ayanamsha if the planet Mars is in Aries in the First Pada of Krittika. And if the zodiac is moved in a counterclockwise direction by One Pada, ( 3°20'00" ). THEN MARS WILL STILL BE IN KRITTIKA FIRST PADA BUT IN TAURUS. This 3°20'00" MUST NOT be added to the ayanamsha. After the horoscope is cast using Yukteswar Ayanamsha (Chart Style "South Indian Regular") you should manually move the zodiac in the counter clockwise direction by 3°20'00". I cannot be clearer than this.
And it is high time the government of India started using Swami Sri Yukteswar's Ayanamsha for fixing their holidays.
And for fixing the dates of the incidents in The Mahabharata I used the FREEWARE Vedic Astrology Software Jagannatha Hora v.7.33. { I cross checked the eclipses from NASA Web-Site. } This program is not giving an ayanamsha of 00°00'00" on 22 Mar. 499 even after selecting "Yukteswar Ayanamsha". I used this program for the simple reason that it's FREE. I hope P.V.R. Narasimha Rao the author of Jagannatha Hora corrects it.
